M and the cake no.2

"M and the cake no.2" Oil on canvas, 30 x 24 inches
(Click on image for larger view)

I started this painting 6 months ago and I think it was the right time to end it as we already may catch a glimpse of Winter with its shortened daylight. This piece is the starting up of something I wanted to explore for a long time: narrative images. This was painted from a shooting for wich I baked a cake, fortunatly this model was a sugar addict ,he almost ate all of it after !!
I wanted to play with some symbols, in that case : birthday/ for many reasons: light, memories, something about childhood, too much to look at and to think about, also the humble universality of the ritual. I'm never entirely satisfied with everything I do. I'm kind of happy with this strange piece cause it shows a side of what I intend to experiment with oil on larger scales: play on the edges of aesthetic rules and represent snapshots from ordinary life.

Thanks for looking, reading and sometimes listening.
Have a good week.

Mile-End's track

" Mile-End's track" Oil on masonite, 8 x 8 inches
Sold

Subjects and inspiration come from many sources. For this painting, I was obsessed by colors: dark green and brown, and had focused many times for so long on that track- it was time to paint it. By the way, many thanks for your support and nice comments on my last post.

I wish you a great week!
